The dilution of the PAC-12 was an omen for where college football is heading. Prestige has given way to playoff probabilities. History doesn’t account for much anymore. The old rituals are slowly being replaced with a system that mirrors the NFL. Pure optimized gain over everything.

Programs stand to gain a lot more financially. But in between all of this, no one is thinking of the fans. Is this a good thing for the college environment? Only time will tell.

Rivalries are a staple of college football. But with the playoffs replacing bowl game culture, it appears that no amount of legacy can withstand the strategy to game the system and get into the postseason.

After more than 40 seasons spent in college football, former Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock has announced his retirement.

Having been a part of 72 Cyclone victories, no other coordinator in school history has seen ISU win more games during their tenure. He joined the school in 2016 and the defensive players he has coached have been recognized by the Big 12 Conference a total of 80 times, earning either first- or second-team honors on 28 occasions.
